Sans starts wondering if there's something else going on here.
I figure after spending probably hundreds of years together that it was pretty hard for Asgore to adjust to being alone. Toriel presumably also struggled with it in her own way. Asgore literally asked you to do just one thing Gaster and you couldn't even do that, way to go you moron. Now he went through it alone!

Asgore, Gaster, Sans (c) Undertale: got into toriel's wine stash
As horrible as this brand of Gaster was to Sans and Papyrus, he really took care of Asgore when nobody else would. Yet Asgore can't even remember all that he did for him. That's one of the saddest parts about his erasure. God, seeing Asgore in such a messed up state hurt to watch. I don't even consider this trauma dumping, since Sans DID ask to know what happened. It was completely solicited, even though Sans is still too young/inexperienced to really understand. Poor Asgore just got a little worked up going down such a sad memory lane. I wish Sans didn't look so sketched out and uncomfortable by the end of it, though. I'm sure he'd be a mess if Papyrus left his life, too. Especially since in this brand of AU, they were all they had.
But, I'm hoping that Sans's facial expression has something to do with the chains. They were in the shot several times. THOSE are odd in such a normal house, not gonna lie. And if some memories of his old life persisted, then we KNOW how Sans feels about locked doors. Or, chained off basements, in this case.
